Who we are.
Carey’s culinary journey began with a truck, a billboard, and a name. Her father, a truck driver, spotted a sign for Carey Salt and decided on the spot—his daughter’s name would be Carey, and it had to be spelled C-A-R-E-Y. That legacy stuck with her, inspiring her first catering company, Salt Catering, nearly 15 years ago. Now, she’s bringing that passion back in a fresh, interactive way with Cured by Salt—a mobile charcuterie cart experience where guests create their own custom boards from a curated selection of artisan meats, cheeses, and gourmet accompaniments.
A chef, sommelier, and lifelong lover of hospitality, Carey believes that great food and great company are the perfect pairing. To her, salt isn’t just a seasoning—it’s for curing, preserving, and bringing out the best in everything, just like good food and memorable gatherings. Partnering with her husband, John, in both life and the kitchen has brought an abundance of flavor and creativity into her household, which she loves to share with the community. With a deep love for handcrafted flavors and immersive experiences, Cured by Salt brings gourmet grazing to weddings, corporate events, and celebrations of all kinds.
When she’s not crafting the perfect bite, you’ll find Carey at home in Kansas City with her family—including her daughter, 9 chickens, 4 goats, and her ever-loyal Great Pyrenees, France (Frank-ee).
